Unnecessary Information on a resume

We all want to show off our special skills that we have, even the ones that don’t have anything in common with our professional skills.

The skills we list at the bottom of our resume, skills such as;  Sports Coach, part time carpenter, painting, etc.   While these are nice skills to have and they may have a place during an interview as something to connect with and have in common with your interviewer, these skills can sometimes create more responses than what you would like.

AI, in all of it’s vast searching criteria will search resumes for key words for a particular position.  If it happens to be looking for a carpenter, and you have carpentry on your resume as a hobby, it will single out your resume and send you an email saying that; I think you would be a great fit for the role, please click here to apply.

This happens because AI does not have the human element of actually reviewing a resume and realizing that the carpentry skill is a hobby, not a specialized skill that you have in your resume.

If you are a carpenter and you are looking for work then this will work for you, but most of the time you will receive dozens of emails about positions that you really are not looking for or qualified for.

The best way to avoid this is to try not to put too much extra curricular activities on your resume that would allow AI to flag you for a position that you are not looking for or not a fit for.

Try to make your activities more general rather than specific, and when you do get an interview, you may have the opportunity to talk about your own special activities that you enjoy.
