DISTINGUISH YOURSELF FROM OTHER CANDIDATES

Bob Mitchell

When submitting a resume to a recruiter for a position, or posting a resume or applying to a position through a job board, it is important that you distinguish yourself from other candidates.

Don’t be the same candidate as all the other applications.  If you skill requires you to create a website, or a page, create a portfolio that you can send along with your resume.  This separates you from other candidates.

If you have a particular skill that you feel is important for a recruiter or hiring manager to be aware of, add that to your resume.

You may want to consider writing a summary paragraph(not a cover letter).  This will define who you are and  what you have accomplished.

I know we all want to show off the work that we have done, but keep your resume down to the most current positions, it should be no more that 3-4 pages long.

By creating yourself and your image by using a portfolio, or a summary paragraph or bullets about who you are, you are separating yourself and will more likely get reviewed by a recruiter or hiring manager.
